Saturday the 14th August in the Community house carpark we are having a Garage Sale, Boot Sale & Sausage Sizzle from 10 am till 4pm.

We have lots of records and Cds for sale.

Bring your car along, pay $20 for a spot and you can sell all your old stuff (and you keep the money) or you can donate it to us and we will sell it for our fund raising to go on FM.

There is also a sausage sizzle.

Brand New Access Radio Station

So if you are visiting Taranaki be sure to check them out. This brings the total up to 12 Access stations in New Zealand. Welcome to Access Radio.

Streaming Update for 22nd July

Stream update the new streaming system is all installed and working by Full Flavour Media using aac (Advanced Audio codecs). Thanks Jesse for all your hard work.
Just remember this is an aac streaming system and doesn’t work on all computers.
This will greatly improve our sound over the previous windows media (wma) system that has been available in the past.
It will open with the embedded browser player. If it doesn’t try these players based on you computer system…
Mac – users open with Itunes
Windows – users open with Itunes, Winamp or Realplayer
Linux – Rhythmbox, Audacious or Xine

Special General Meeting (SGM) on Thursday 29th July 2010

Dear Society members,

The Executive Committee of the Otago Broadcaster’s Society wishes to notify you of a Special General Meeting (SGM) to be held on Thursday July 29th in the Alexander Macmillan room Community house between 5.30 and 8pm. Generally this meeting will provide an excellent opportunity to discuss the Trust and Societies joint vision in protecting and nurturing the valuable community asset and Dunedin institution that is Toroa Radio.

Specifically the meeting has been requested by a letter signed by 6 society members concerned about recent events at Toroa radio. This letter requests four points be put forward for discussion at the SGM:

1) The future direction of Toroa Station and the role of the Society to protect this community asset and the philosophy of Community Access Radio;

2) The role of the Society Reps on the Trust Board;

3) To provide an opportunity for the Society Members to elect the Society Reps;

4) The ability for the Society to employ as was in the Constitution prior to 2000;

Each of the four points will be discussed at the meeting in a forum facilitated by an independent mediator; this part of the evening is scheduled between 7 and 8pm.

Prior to discussion we welcome you to a pot luck meal between 5.30 and 7pm for a ‘get together’ of people with a shared passion for Toroa and Community Access radio.

Toroa Radio Update…

As we are sure you are aware Hugh and Renee Dingwall have resigned from the position of Station Manager and Office Manager of Toroa Radio. We wish them well for the future and appreciate the contribution they have made.

While this change may have come as a surprise the Hills AM Trust and the Otago Community Broadcasters’ Society Committee would like to take this opportunity to reassure all programme makers and other stakeholders at Toroa Radio that the Station will not change its goals or vision of providing a voice to the community and enabling all members of our diverse and colourful community access to Toroa. It is business as usual!

We currently have a couple of helping hands answering phones and assisting Geoff until we find new people to carry on the roles of Station Manager and Administration Support.

Despite some misunderstanding in the last few months there never has been any intention of changing the direction of Toroa Radio. What is going to change is that we will have a brand new FM frequency within the next year all going according to plan. We are working hard together to get Toroa Radio out into the community as well as fund raise for the installment of FM. This will expose more of Dunedin to the voice of Toroa which will increase the number of people in our community, listening to you and your community.

We need to be ready to receive a lot of attention and be a much busier place. We also need to be ready for this so that we can meet the positive challenges this will bring for very own community access radio station.

Sausages done (’til next time…)

Thanks to all the great Society Committee members who came and helped with the sausage sizzle at the Maclaggan Street Warehouse on Sunday (28/06/10). Particular thanks to Louise and Rita, who were there the whole time!

If you’re one of the people who came along, ate sausages and signed up for a free show, hang in there – you should find out if you’re the lucky winner some time in the next week or so!

Finally, if you’re feeling depressed because you missed out on your alloted sausage, don’t worry. The Society will be having another sausage sizzle in July – this time outside the central city Countdown. So, you’ve still got plenty of time to come and enjoy fundraising sausages while supporting Community Access radio…
